A Kitale court was shocked last week after a mother revealed that she was left crying in pain and helplessness when she stumbled upon her 11-year-old daughter locked in a car, in the embrace of a naked Catholic priest.
She was testifying in a case against Fr Bernard Magina Masinde. The priest Magina Masinde, who serves at Kipsaina Parish in Trans Zoia, is facing charges of attempted defilement. The disgraced Catholic preacher is also facing an alternative charge of caressing the genitals of a minor.
According to the charge sheet, the Kenyan priest who defiled a minor, reportedly committed the shameful acts on the 15th of September, 2018.
The Catholic leader, Magina Masinde, is accused of having defiled the young girl Kipsaina trading center, at Cherangany Sub-county. The Kenyan priest has however pleaded innocent to the charges.
Testifying, the young girl’s said that on that fateful day, she sent at around 7 in the evening, her daughter to Kipsaina shopping Centre to purchase kerosene.
After her daughter took too long to come back, the worried mom set out to look for her. It was then that she spotted her daughter, who is also a dancer at the local Kenyan Catholic Church, in a parked car in the company of the accused priest.
Upon further investigation, the shocked mom realized that the priest was half-naked.
The mother of the defiled girl immediately raised the alarm. Members of the public reacted to her distress call, and immediately arrested the priest before handing him over to the local law enforcement officers.
The court released the accused on a Ksh. 300,000 bond and a surety of the same amount. The case resumes on October 1.
This is not the first time the Catholic Church is facing scandals in Kenya. Earlier this year, an international Catholic organization authorized private DNA experts to conduct paternity tests on children who claim they were sired by Catholic priests.
In one of the cases, a priest based in Meru just like Magina Masinde the priest was said to be the biological father of two male cousins, who were killed and their bodies disposed of in a river.
According to reports, the cousins named as Amos and Harrison were carjacked, commandeered to a river in Ruai, then shot dead.
Amos’ mother also died under mysterious circumstances, months before her son’s demise.
