Tragic Childhoods of Kenyan Celebs

Some famous people out there have a tragic childhood experience that strengthened them into being better women and men in the society. A list of kenyan Celebrities who passed through hardships in their upbringing but later made it in life.

  1. 1 Jaguar

    The Kenyan artist lost his mother at an early age of eleven. His mother was the only breadwinner in the family since Jaguar’s father was alcoholic and never took care of them. After the demise of his parent he started doing menial jobs and at one time he was a makanga (matatu conductor). He later tried music and it worked for him.

  2. 2 Mejja

    Mejja was brought up in one of the poorest slums in Kenya named Mjengo in Nyeri County. He passed through a tough childhood based on poverty. He later enrolled in music and later got help from a popular producer who hosted him for some time before he could actually afford to rent his own house.

  3. 3 Octopizzo

    The controversial musician spent his childhood leaving in Kibera. Poverty forced him to work in a garage in the juakali for 3years before venturing into music. His talent led him to release some hit songs through the help of DJ Pinye. Octopizzo song hivohivo made him more popular.

  4. 4 Chris Kirubi

    The outspoken businessman is a tycoon who became successful out of experience from childhood hardships. Chris lost both his parents at an early age and ended up being the breadwinner of the family. He had to work during holidays and free times so as to cater for the upkeep of his siblings. 

    He started buying and selling properties and ended up starting his own company. He is also a shareholder at coca-cola and a variety of other companies. He is also one of the richest tycoons in Africa with estimated net worth of $300 million.

  5. 5 Ringtone

    The sensational gospel singer grewup in the streets. It is said that during birth his mother dumped him at the entrance of a club in a dustbin. He was lucky to be picked alive and was taken by his uncle who took care of him. 

    He was later taken to the village where he grewup in his grandmothers home until she died. His relatives rejected him and he endedup being a street urchin. Ringtone was later rescued by a good samaritan and thats how his story changed.

  6. 6 Betty Bayo

    Beatrace Mbugua the promising gospel artist who started from a background of povery. Beatrice Mbugua populary known as Betty Bayo is a renowned gospel musician in Kenya who has a couple of hit songs.

     Being brought up from a poor family Betty Bay dropedout of school in Form two, since her parents could nolonger afford to pay schoolfees. She was forced to do menial jobs to get money for survival and also to find school fees, so that she could go back to school. She became a house girl at an early age, where she was paid sh70 per day. 

    The payment was too little and she decided to quit and work for people who gave her atleast ksh 100 bob per day. Today she is succesful and one of the promising Kenyan artist.
